How to get there

Bus

Dresden's public transport (DVB) operates trams and buses. Central stops for venues like Semperoper and Frauenkirche are 'Theaterplatz' and 'Postplatz'. From Dresden Hauptbahnhof, tram lines 8 or 9 go to Theaterplatz. From Dresden-Neustadt, tram line 11 reaches Postplatz. Services run frequently, typically every 10 minutes during the day.

Taxi
Recommended
Taxis are readily available. Stands are at major hubs like Dresden Hauptbahnhof and near venues like the Semperoper. Booking in advance is recommended, especially after evening performances.

Walking
Recommended
Many central venues like Semperoper, Frauenkirche, and Kulturpalast are within walking distance. The walk from Dresden Hauptbahnhof to Neumarkt (Frauenkirche) is about 15 minutes. From Postplatz to Theaterplatz (Semperoper) is a few minutes.

Bike
Dresden is bike-friendly with rental options. MOBIbike offers a bike-sharing service at MOBIpunkt stations. Other companies like RollOn Dresden also provide rentals. The Elbe cycle path offers scenic routes.

Boat
Sightseeing boat cruises on the Elbe River depart from Terrassenufer. Services like Sächsische Dampfschifffahrt offer tours past landmarks. These provide scenic views but are not direct transport to specific festival venues.

Cable Car
Dresden has historic funicular railways: Standseilbahn and Schwebebahn (suspension railway). The Schwebebahn connects Loschwitz and Oberloschwitz (lower station near Körnerplatz). The Standseilbahn runs from Körnerplatz to Weißer Hirsch. These are scenic but not direct transport to central festival venues. Körnerplatz is accessible by bus lines 61, 63, 84, and 521.

Car
Driving is possible via A4 and A17. Parking is available in underground garages near central venues, such as 'Semperoper' car park on Devrientstraße (200m from Semperoper), and Q-Park garages at Altmarkt, Frauenkirche/Neumarkt, and Haus Postplatz (within an 8-minute walk).

Ferry
DVB operates three Elbe ferries. 'Ferry Johanna' connects Johannstadt and Neustadt. 'Ferry Caroline' crosses between Niederpoyritz and Laubegast. 'Schloßfähre' (Ferry F14) connects Kleinzschachwitz and Pillnitz.

Train
Dresden Hauptbahnhof and Dresden-Neustadt are key train hubs. S-Bahn line S2 connects Dresden Airport directly to Dresden Hauptbahnhof. From Hauptbahnhof, transfer to trams or walk to central venues.
