How to get there

Car
Recommended
Driving a private car is an option to reach the Imjingak Peace Park area. The road distance from Seoul is around 87-89 km. Parking is available at Imjingak. However, to access restricted areas within the DMZ, such as the Third Tunnel or Dora Observatory, visitors must transfer to an official DMZ tour bus.

Shuttle
Recommended
Numerous tour operators offer round-trip shuttle bus services from central Seoul to the DMZ. Common departure points include Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station (Exit 8), Myeongdong Station (Exit 9), Hongik University Station (Exit 3), and City Hall Station (Exit 7). These shuttles typically transport travelers to Imjingak Park, where they then join official DMZ tour buses for entry into restricted areas like the Third Tunnel, Dora Observatory, and Dorasan Station.

Taxi
Recommended
Taxis can be hired from Seoul directly to the DMZ tourist areas, such as Imjingak Park. The road distance is approximately 87-89 km, with fares ranging from ₩80,000–100,000. Once at Imjingak, you will need to join an official DMZ tour bus to enter restricted areas like the Third Tunnel or Dora Observatory.

Bus
Public buses are available from Seoul to towns near the DMZ. For example, take bus 3000 from Dong Seoul Bus Terminal to Sincheorwon Bus Terminal (approx. 1h 30m journey). From there, further local transport (e.g., taxi or local bus) would be needed to reach DMZ tourist areas like Imjingak Park, where official DMZ tours commence.

Cable Car
The Paju Imjingak Peace Gondola (DMZ Peace Gondola) is an attraction located within the Imjingak Tourist Complex. It crosses the Civilian Control Zone between Imjingak Resort and Camp Greaves, offering aerial views of the DMZ landscape. It is not a primary mode of transport to the DMZ from Seoul, but an experience once you are at Imjingak. The gondola operates from Imjingak Station.

Metro
The Seoul Metro can be used to reach various departure points for DMZ shuttle services or to connect with local train lines. For instance, take the metro to Munsan Station (Gyeongui-Jungang Line), then transfer to a local train to Imjingang Station. From Imjingang, you can access the Imjingak tourist area and join local DMZ tours.

Train
While the direct 'DMZ Train' from Seoul to Dorasan Station is no longer operational, you can take a regular train (Gyeongui-Jungang Line) from Seoul to Munsan Station. From Munsan, transfer to a local shuttle service train that operates to Imjingang Station. Imjingang Station is the gateway to the Imjingak tourist complex, where official DMZ tours begin.
